    A comparative anatomical study of the genus Puschkinia Adams in Turkey

    In the study, Puschkinia scilloides Adams, P. bilgineri Yıldırım, and P. peshmenii Rix et B. Mathew were compared anatomically. Although the stem vascular bundles were arranged in two rows in P. peshmenii, they can observed in three rows in P. scilloides and P. bilgineri. In addition, some differences were found, such as the metaxylem number in the root, number of vascular bundles in the scape, presence of raphide crystals, and number of protruding epidermis cells at the tip of the leaf. These differences have been found to be taxonomically useful for distinguishing these species. Moreover, similarities and differences between Puschkinia Adams and the taxonomically closely related Scilla L. section Chionodoxa Boiss. and Scilla bifolia L. taxa were also discussed

    Prospective teachers’ views about creating websites for social studies teaching in distance education

    The present study aims to investigate prospective teachers’ views about creating websites for social studies teaching in distance education. To this end, the study employed the case study method, one of the qualitative research methods. The study group consisted of prospective social studies and classroom teachers studying in the 2019-2020 academic year at the Faculty of Education of a state university located in the Black Sea Region. The study was conducted in two phases: the first phase was carried out with 112 prospective teachers and the second with 12. Data were collected by means of structured and semi-structured interviews and were analyzed by content analysis. Data analysis revealed that websites were a part of the learning-teaching process, that it was important to use websites as educational tools, that websites enabled technology to be integrated into education, that websites enabled the inclusion of up-to-date content for effective teaching of social studies, and that websites provided students with easy access to knowledge through fun learning environments. Based on the results, it can be recommended that the creation and use of websites for the social studies course should be promoted among both working and prospective teachers and that social studies lessons can be taught more effectively with personal educational websites that contain up-to-date, fun, and interactive teaching materials

    Challenges of being a teacher in multigrade classrooms

    Bu araştırmada birleştirilmiş sınıflarda öğretmen olmanın zorluklarını açığa çıkartmak amaçlanmıştır. Çalışma grubunda, 2021-2022 eğitim-öğretim yılında Anadolu’da bir ilçede bulunan birleştirilmiş sınıflı okullarda görev yapmakta olan sekiz müdür yetkili öğretmen yer almıştır. Nitel araştırma türünde tasarlanan bu çalışmada fenomenolojik desen kullanılmıştır. Veri toplama tekniği olarak yarı yapılandırılmış görüşme uygulanmıştır. Elde edilen verilerin çözümlenmesi sonucunda katılımcıların birleştirilmiş sınıfta öğretmenlik yapmaya ilişkin yeterli deneyimlerinin olmaması ve çoklu rolleri dolayısıyla zorlandıkları ortaya çıkmıştır. Bu öğretmenler öğretim programını planlama ve uygulama, zamanı yönetme, materyale erişme ve kullanma, ölçme-değerlendirme konularında çeşitli problemler yaşadıklarını belirtmişlerdir. Katılımcılar, resmi makamlardan gelen yazılı isteklere cevap vermek ile ilgili sıkıntılar yaşadıklarını, okul binalarının yapısal sorunlarını çözmek amacıyla kaynak ve destek bulmak için çabaladıklarını, iş yükü nedeniyle baş ağrısı ve ses yorgunluğu gibi fiziksel sorunların yanı sıra çaresizlik, karamsarlık, mahcubiyet gibi olumsuz duygular hissettiklerini bu yüzden motivasyon düşüşü, meslekten uzaklaşma, kendilerini yetersiz hissetme gibi sorunlar yaşadıklarını belirtmişlerdir. Uzaktan eğitim sürecinde öğretmenler, velilerin teknoloji kullanımında yetersiz kaldıklarını ve çocuğu ev ortamında eğitim-öğretime hazır hale getiremediklerini belirtmişlerdir. Ayrıca öğretmenlerin, öğrenci grupları ile ayrı ayrı ders yapmak zorunda kalması onlarla etkileşim sürelerini sınırlandırmıştır. Bu bağlamda, aday öğretmenler için birleştirilmiş sınıflara özgü sınıf yönetimi, zaman kullanımı, materyal geliştirme, ölçme-değerlendirme, yönetim gibi görev ve sorumluluklar açısından zengin deneyimler kazandırılması; birleştirilmiş sınıfta görev yapan öğretmenler için ortak sorunlar ve bilgi paylaşımına olanak sağlayacak iletişim ağlarının oluşturulması şeklinde öneriler sunulmuştur.This qualitative phenomenological study aimed to investigate the difficulties of being a teacher in multigrade classrooms. In the study group, there were 8 teachers working as an authorized principal in schools with multigrade classrooms in a district of Anatolia in the 2021-2022 academic year. In this study, semistructured interviews were used to collect data. Findings showed that the participants did not have sufficient experience of teaching in the multigrade classroom and had difficulties due to their multiple roles. These teachers stated that they had various problems in planning and implementing the curriculum, managing time, accessing and using materials, measuring and evaluating. The participants stated that they had difficulties in responding to written requests from official authorities, they struggled to find resources and support to solve the structural problems of school buildings, they felt negative emotions such as helplessness, pessimism, and embarrassment, as well as physical problems such as headaches and vocal fatigue due to workloads. Therefore, participants stated that they experienced problems such as decreased motivation, alienation from the profession, and feeling inadequate. In the distance education process, the teachers stated that the parents were insufficient in the use of technology and that they could not make the child ready for education in the home. In addition, the fact that teachers had to teach separately with student groups limited their interaction time with them. In this context, it has been suggested that teacher candidates should be provided with rich experiences in terms of tasks and responsibilities such as classroom management, time use, material development, measurement-evaluation, management specific to multigrade classrooms, and that communication networks should be created for teachers working in multigrade classrooms that will allow sharing of common problems and information

    Resistance Rates of Mycobacterium Tuberculosis Complex Isolates Obtained From Clinical Samples to Major Antituberculous Drugs: a Study in Edirne, Turkey

    DergiPark: 439208tmsjAims: The aim of this study is to reveal the rates of the Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex resistance to major antituberculous drugs (streptomycin, isoniazid, rifampicin, ethambutol) by the evaluation of the specimens that are sent to Trakya University Hospital Microbiology Laboratory. Methods:In this study, laboratory data of the cases that were pre-diagnosed with tuberculosis between 11/02/2016 and 31/12/2017 were scanned retrospectively. To compare the annual data descriptive statistics as arithmetic mean, numbers and percentages were used. Results: Out of 4752 samples, 133 (2.79%) were culture positive. 120 isolates were identified as Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex, while other 13 were defined as Mycobacterium other than tuberculosis. Antimycobacterial susceptibility tests showed that 9 (7.5%) isolates were resistant to streptomycin, 10 (8.33%) isolates to isoniazid, 4 (3.33%) isolates to rifampicin, 4 (3.33) isolates to ethambutol. 5 (4.16%) isolates were multidrug resistant. Conclusion: Antituberculous drug resistance is still a threat for an effective treatment of tuberculosis and streptomycin resistance has increased.     The Relationship between Thyroid Hormones, Metabolic Syndrome and HOMA-IR in People with Obesity or Overweight

    Objective: In the literature the data about the relationship between thyroid hormone (TH) levels and Metabolic Syndrome (MetS) components are conflicting. Our aim was to evaluate the associations between THs and MetS as well as individual components of MetS and homeostatic model assessment of insulin resistance (HOMA-IR) in euthyroid people with obesity and overweight. Materials and methods: Adult patients who presented to Family Medicine Outpatient Clinics of a tertiary hospital between May 2019 and December 2019 with the intention of weight loss were enrolled in this cross-sectional, descriptive study. The data including height, weight, waist circumference, hip circumference, blood pressure (BP), fasting blood glucose (FBG), total cholesterol, high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), low density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), triglyceride, thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH), free triiodothyronine (fT3), free thyroxine (fT4), insulin, HOMA-IR, and HbA1c were analyzed. Results: A total of 175 patients, 135 (77.1%) female, 40 (22.9%) male (mean age: 40.8 ± 13.1 years), without known thyroid dysfunction were included. A total of 86 were overweight and 89 were obese. Fifty-nine (33.7%) of the study participants were diagnosed with MetS. Subjects with MetS had significantly higher level of fT3 even within the normal range (p = 0.039). When TSH, fT4 and fT3 values were compared with other metabolic components in the group with MetS, a significant positive correlation was found only between fT4 level and HOMA-IR (Rho = 0.316, p = 0.026). Conclusions: MetS was associated with high normal fT3 suggesting differential thyroid hormone metabolism in people with MetS

    Effectiveness of tranexamic acid on bleeding in conization

    Objective: Bleeding is the most common complication of conization of cervix. Hemostatic sutures, intraoperative ferric subsulfate, or vasopressin can be used when intraoperative bleeding occurred, whereas oral tranexamic acid (TA) may be used for post-operative bleeding. In this study, we aimed to find out whether intraoperative cervical TA administration in patients undergoing conization caused changes in the amount of intraoperative bleeding and post-operative hemogram. Material and Methods: Patients who have undergone cervical conization between January 2019 and July 2019 in Zeynep Kamil Health Application and Research Center Gynecological Diseases and Birth Clinic were evaluated. One hundred and five patients were included to our study. One ampoule of 10% TA was applied cervically to 47 of these patients. Both groups were evaluated in terms of measuring the intraoperative amount of blood in the aspirator, changes in post-operative hb/htc/plt values compared to the pre-operative values, and the rate of post-operative bleeding. Results: In our study, the amount of intraoperative hemorrhage and pre-operative hemoglobin, hematocrit, and platelet values compared to the post-operative values were found to be similar in both groups. Conclusion: Although TA has been shown to be effective on hemorrhage in benign gynecologic operations, menorrhagia, and postpartum hemorrhages, no significant effect on hemorrhage in conization with cervical TA administration has been demonstrated

Böylece örgütün görevini etkin ve verimli bir şekilde yerine getirmesini sağlamak amaçlanmaktadır. Ancak bu örgütsel amaçlarla gerçekleştirilen norm kadro çalışmaları, çalışanlar tarafından şüpheyle ve olumlu, olumsuz gibi farklı algılanabilir. Bu noktadan hareketle bu çalışmanın amacı, bir devlet üniversitesinin idari personelinin norm kadro algısını ve bu algının nedenleri ile boyutlarını tespit etmektir. Çalışmada veri toplamak için nitel araştırma tekniklerinden yarı yapılandırılmış mülakat tekniğinden yararlanılmıştır. Bu kapsamda bir devlet üniversitesinin Personel Daire Başkanlığı’nda çalışan 18 idari personelle yapılan mülakatlar içerik analizine tabi tutulmuştur. Araştırmanın bulguları ışığında norm kadro çalışmalarının kurum için yararlı olabileceği kanaatine rağmen uygulanabilirliği ile ilgili kaygıların olduğunu söylemek mümkündür.The most important aim of the norm staff studies is to determine the staff requirement for the tasks in terms of quantity and quality. Thus, it is aimede to achieve the organisaitonal task in an efficient and productive manner. However, the norm staff studies, carried out with these organizational aims, can be perceived in different ways by the employees positive and suspiciously or negative. From this point of view, the purpose of this study is to determine the norm staff perception of the administrative employees in a state university and the reasons and dimensions of this perception. In the study, the semi-structured interview technique as qualitative research techniques is used to collect data. In this context, the interviews with 18 administrative staff working in the Personnel Department of a state university are subjected to content analysis. According to the findings of the research it is possible to say that despite it is thought that the norm staff studies can be useful for the institution that there are concerns about its applicability

    An anatomical study on scabiosa hispidula boiss. (Caprifoliaceae)

    Taksonomik açıdan karışıklıklar içeren Scabiosa L. cinsi, Caprifoliaceae familyasının en önemli cinslerinden biridir ve ülkemizde yaklaşık 36 takson ile temsil edilmektedir. Bu çalışmanın amacı Mayıs-Eylül ayları arasında çiçeklenen ve tek yıllık bir bitki olan Scabiosa hispidula Boiss. türünün, anatomik özelliklerinin belirlenmesidir. Bu amaçla kök, gövde ve yapraklardan alınan enine kesitler incelenerek fotograflandırılmıştır. Gövde enine kesitinde gözlenen salgı tüyleri ve hidatotlar karakteristiktir.Scabiosa L. genus contains taxonomic confusions is one of the most important genus of the family Caprifoliaceae and is represented by 36 taxon in Turkey. The aim of this study was to determine the anatomical features of Scabiosa hispidula Boiss. with an annual and flowering between May and September. For this purpose, cross-sections of root, stem and leaf parts of the plant were examined and demonstrated by photographs. The glandular hairs and hydathode was observed in the cross-section of stem are characteristics for S. hispidula
